PhotoPiper Privacy Policy

Effective Date: September 14, 2026

TL;DR: Your photos never leave your computer. Transfers happen locally between your device and the folder you choose — we never receive your files, file names, or folders. The Mac app sends us nothing. The Windows app sends anonymous usage statistics (for example, "a transfer finished"), and you can turn that off in Settings → Data.

Tedy Development ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This document describes how the PhotoPiper applications for macOS and Windows handle information. The two apps are built differently, so each has its own section below.

What We Never Collect

On either platform, PhotoPiper never sends us your photos or videos, their contents, file names, folder paths, the names or serial numbers of your phones and memory cards, or your license key.

PhotoPiper for macOS

Data We Collect

PhotoPiper for macOS runs entirely on your Mac. It contains no analytics, tracking, or telemetry, and we do not collect or transmit any personal data to our servers.

While you use the app, we store the following information locally on your device:

  • Transfer metadata – file names, sizes, creation dates, and device identifiers necessary to manage the transfer queue.
  • Device cache – a record of previously indexed devices/assets so we can skip duplicates on future sessions.
  • Usage quota state – the current free-tier counter and unlock status required to enforce the paywall.

This information is saved inside the application sandbox at:

~/Library/Containers/<bundle identifier>/Data/Library/Application Support/PhotoPiper

You may remove this data at any time by using the in-app "Clear" option or deleting the container directory.

Purchases

PhotoPiper for macOS uses Apple's StoreKit framework for the optional upgrade to unlimited transfers. Purchases are processed by Apple; we never receive raw payment information. We only store the resulting entitlement status locally to unlock features.

Security

The app operates inside Apple's sandbox with the minimum entitlements required to access your connected device and chosen export folder. Security-scoped bookmarks are used to preserve your directory selection without broad file-system access.

PhotoPiper for Windows

Anonymous Usage Statistics

PhotoPiper for Windows sends a small number of anonymous usage events to an analytics server we host ourselves (Rybbit, running at tracking.tedydev.com). No third-party analytics company receives this data. We use it to understand where people get stuck — for example, whether transfers fail, or whether license activation works after a purchase — so we can fix those problems.

An event is sent when:

  • the app starts;
  • a transfer starts, finishes, or fails;
  • the free daily limit is reached, or you click Upgrade or Buy;
  • a license key is accepted or rejected.

Each event contains only:

  • The event name and the screen of the app it came from.
  • Counts and simple values – such as the number of files transferred, skipped, or failed, the total size in megabytes, the duration in seconds, the source type (iPhone/iPad, Android, or memory card), a general failure reason (such as "disk full" or "disconnected"), your daily-limit usage, and whether the app is licensed.
  • App information – the app version and whether it was installed from the Microsoft Store or downloaded directly.
  • Basic system information – the display language, screen resolution, and the operating system and browser engine version reported by the app's built-in web view.
  • A random installation ID – generated on your PC the first time the app runs, so that events from the same installation can be counted together. It is not derived from your hardware, your Windows account, or your license, and it is not linked to your name or email address.

As with any internet request, the analytics server sees your IP address when it receives an event. It uses the address to estimate your approximate location (country and region) and does not store the IP address itself.

How to turn it off: open Settings → Data and switch off "Share anonymous usage data". The change takes effect immediately, without restarting the app. Sharing is on by default. The app sends nothing until it has read this setting, and if the analytics server cannot be reached, the app stops trying until its next launch — it never retries or queues events, and it never affects your transfers.

Data Stored on Your PC

Like the Mac app, the Windows app keeps its transfer history, device cache, settings, and daily-limit counter locally on your PC. Your license key is stored encrypted with Windows data protection. The app also writes diagnostic log files to %APPDATA%\PhotoPiper\logs; these stay on your PC and are only shared with us if you choose to send them, for example when contacting support.

Purchases and License Activation

Licenses for PhotoPiper for Windows are sold through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record and processes your payment. We never receive your card details. Lemon Squeezy shares the order details you enter at checkout, such as your name and email address, with us so we can provide support and handle refunds. Their handling of your data is covered by the Lemon Squeezy privacy policy.

When you activate a license, and periodically afterwards to confirm it is still valid, the app sends your license key and a short identifier derived from your PC's Windows machine ID to Lemon Squeezy. This lets a license be limited to a set number of computers. These requests go to Lemon Squeezy, not to our analytics server.

Updates

The version downloaded from our website checks GitHub for a newer release when it starts (you can turn this off in Settings with "Check for updates on launch"). As with any download, GitHub receives your IP address; see the GitHub Privacy Statement. The Microsoft Store version is updated by the Store and does not perform this check.

Advertising

PhotoPiper does not use advertising frameworks and does not sell or share your data with advertisers.

Your Choices

  • Turn off usage statistics (Windows): Settings → Data → "Share anonymous usage data".
  • Delete cached data: On macOS, use the in-app "Clear" button or remove the app container to purge all stored metadata and quota information. On Windows, deleting the %APPDATA%\PhotoPiper folder removes the transfer history, daily-limit state, license data, and logs.
  • Opt out of purchases: You can continue using the free tier without upgrading; the quota resets daily at midnight UTC.
  • Questions or requests about your data: Email us at the address below.
